A handful of Virginia school boards are exiting the Virginia School Board Association, the longest-running organization dedicated to supporting school boards in the commonwealth, over claims that it has failed to meet their needs and doesn't align with their conservative values.

The process to recall five East Baton Rouge School Board members is underway. A group calling themselves a community coalition made up of district employees, teachers, and residents is spearheading that effort. The group is calling for Mark Bellue, District 1, Nathan Rust, District 6, Michael Gaudet, District 7, Emily Soul, District 8 and Patrick Martin, District 9 to be recalled.

A southern Indiana school district is slashing its budget to make up for some bad accounting. Scott County School District 2 overspent millions of dollars. While the board fired the person they said is responsible, they're now faced with some tough decisions and lots of cuts.

The St. Joseph School District is actively being investigated by the Missouri attorney general over allegations first reported by The Lion. Those allegations include violations of Missouri Sunshine Law related to closed meetings, illegal electioneering for a school bond campaign, and conflicts of interest between the district and Community Action Partnership of Greater St. Joseph (CAPSTJOE), where one board member served as executive director and another as board treasurer.

Francis Howell School District board members plan to introduce measures prohibiting classroom discussions on gender identity and require the board to approve every book purchased or donated in the district.
