With November’s school board elections approaching, the issue of book bans will once again appear on the ballot in the form of some races between conservative candidates and their opponents.
Asked in a Local News Network survey if they favored book bans, 38 of the 74 candidates who responded to the questionnaire said they favor a policy in which professionals are involved in making sure books are age-appropriate. Another 19 strongly opposed book bans without citing policies for reviewing books.
However, 17 candidates were open to banning books that parents find objectionable.
