Nearly a week after hundreds called for the firing of a Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District teacher, district officials have announced they’re actively seeking to terminate the educator for her comments on the death of political conservative Charlie Kirk.
The Texas Education Agency encouraged superintendents to report insensitive remarks by faculty and staff on the 31-year-old’s apparent assassination at Utah Valley University last Wednesday in Orem, Utah. The TEA says its investigating about 180 complaints.
“The district is taking the necessary steps to terminate the teacher’s contract using the process that the Texas Legislature designed to ensure due process for teachers accused of misconduct,” officials said in a news release. “This process is available to every Texas teacher who holds a contract under Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code, regardless of the nature or severity of the accusations against the teacher.
