School Board Members Ask Wayne Parents Not to Fear AI, but to 'Embrace' Its Use in Education

During this past Wayne school board meeting, retiring Superintendent Dr. Mark Toback, gave his final presentation to the Board of Ed, reviewing the results of five annual district goals for the 2024-2025 school year. The first goal was about exploring the use of AI by students and teachers, called “Leveraging AI to Enhance Educational Outcomes and Employee Efficiency.”

Two board trustees, Matt Giordano and Ryan Battershill, championed the use of AI, asking parents not to fear the new technology, but to embrace it.

In his presentation, Dr. Toback said that the district has already approved Policy 2365, governing the “Acceptable Use of Generative AI,” and adopted an AI implementation plan. The Superintendent also announced the creation of an AI Traffic Light model to “support the use of AI in classroom instruction,” and described a final committee meeting where teaching staff provided input on future implementation strategies.
