Oregon House unanimously passes ‘Alyssa’s Law’ to help enhance school safety

The law, House Bill 3083, is named in honor of Alyssa Alhadeff, a 14-year-old student who lost her life in the 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Florida. The bill passed the House unanimously with a 50-0 vote.

The legislation requires school districts to consider installing a panic alarm system in their schools, consisting of either a wireless or wearable panic alarm that’s directly linked to law enforcement agencies. Through these systems, teachers or school staff can immediately connect to emergency medical services and first responders.
