In December 2024, a federal judge granted Liberty Counsel a permanent injunction on behalf of CEF Hawaii giving them equal access to school facilities which had been unlawfully denied by the Hawaii State Department of Education and six different elementary schools.
The permanent injunction awarded CEF Hawaii “prevailing party” status, which not only now protects the Good News Clubs from viewpoint discrimination, but required the state to cover litigation costs. The injunction also requires that Hawaii school officials give CEF’s after school Bible clubs equal access like other similarly-situated clubs on public school campuses throughout the state.
